The Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn

The Winter Solstice this week (21 December) brings also a unique astronomical spectacle. Jupiter and Saturn come close together in the sky, the closest they are said to have been in over 800 years. Astronomers are looking forward to viewing this spectacle, which they are calling the Christmas star. For those interested in astrology, this conjunction can bring intense emotions and a natural slowing down and pausing of many things in life.

The effects of this conjunction will stay for many months into the new year as both Jupiter and Saturn are slow-moving planets that bring stillness, wisdom and practicality into our lives. This conjunction is expected to bring some big changes, but not all signs will be affected by it.

Mars moves into Aries along with the Moon on Christmas Day, crossing the Gandanta point between Pisces and Aries. This year’s Christmas eve and Christmas Day could bring some revelations, anger, resurfacing of old wounds and trigger changes that force us in new directions.
